Here’s the second most essential thing you can do to repair your skin this week.
Take a look at your skin. If it’s dry, it probably hasn’t yet recovered from your delicious summer binge, sun-bathing and dry hot air this fall season.
So what can you do right now to improve the health and moisture of your skin?
We always think about putting on lotions and creams first, but that’s not enough.
With skin, it’s what you use on the inside that counts. This is a core principle when I teach clients about caring for their skin (from the inside out) in my 6 month Healthy Skin Program. The program helps clients get healthy skin when dealing with long term skin issues that have been unresponsive to traditional treatments.
Remember that your skin is the largest organ of the body and it needs the right combo of nutrients to work well, just like our muscles and brain.
For ultimate skin health, the goal is to: optimize your skin with the right combination of skin nutritional support, optimize digestion, and support the skin flora or microbiome.
Otherwise you’ll see trends of:
· Red, dry irritated skin that just doesn’t heal
· Acne popping up as an adult
· Dry flaking skin and dry rough patches of skin
· Bumps that are painful
· Discoloration from sun or aging spots
· Weird growths on your skin that you’re unsure about
· Hair loss more than you are used to
All of these symptoms are tell-tell signs your skin is begging for some love and attention.
So here’s the second most essential thing you can do for your skin this week.
Feed it!
This time of year is especially important for restoring what you did over the summer. Things like alcohol, sugars and forgetting your skin nutrients contribute to dry wrinkling skin over time. They create free radicals which form errors in skin cell DNA programming and THIS MEANS TROUBLE for the next summer season! A build-up of these errors is what you want to avoid….
Here’s the thing…did you know your skin will regenerate itself every 27-30 days? Makes you stop and think about what you’ve done for your skin besides put lotion on it to help it regenerate it!?
So what should you feed it with?
A high density of red, orange and yellow foods initially, followed by dark reds and purples. Why this combo? Our goal is to repair the skin damage and then seal in the goodness.
Time of day matters too. The emphasis of color in your first meal of the day should be to repair. So if you’ve having a bagel, toast or muffins for breakfast, you’re missing the mark.
Having the right balance of healthy Omega 3:6 fats matters too. That’s a whole post by itself!
The key is to combine the right nutrients (colors and fats) at the right time (of the day and year), and this guarantees healing skin inflammation down to the core.
